Fort Laramie

This is standing at the gate going into Fort Laramie.

This is a sign in the town of Fort Laramie.

Aug 10th (Tues)
Trip reading is 1723 so we traveled 85 miles today and will be camping at the Guernsey State Park. Temp still at 95 degrees. We went to Fort Laramie today. The fort was built around 1849 to protect the wagon trains traveling west. It was more like a city than a fort but there is not much rebuilt today. The city of Fort Laramie is a real western town but only has 273 people. There is a lot of coal coming out of Wyoming. A train with about 150 cars goes by every 10 minutes.
